All families need support from their community. Without support, parents struggle and children suffer. Many families are experiencing significant stress related to increased immigration enforcement activity in our communities. These circumstances have created uncertainty and concern for many, affecting families in different ways, including our children.

Parents strive every day to protect and care for their children. Right now, many children are feeling worried about their own well-being and that of their family members and classmates. They are sensitive to the stress around them, and disruptions to routines and a sense of stability can have a real impact. Even when we try to shield them, they are aware of what is happening in their communities.

Some young people are expressing their feelings by speaking out and participating in civic engagement around issues they care about. At the same time, many are processing complex situations that can feel overwhelming for their age.

Parents are working hard to support their children while navigating their own stress and uncertainty. They should not have to do this alone. FamilyWise continues to walk alongside families navigating fear and uncertainty, and we are grateful to our staff and for the many Minnesotans who are showing up to support children and families during this time. Strong networks of friends, neighbors, and community members help families build resilience and move forward.

Rebuilding a sense of safety and stability will take time and collective care. If your family needs support, FamilyWise offers a free parent support group. We also provide 1:1 support for parents as well as parent coaching. If you want to give help to families in our community, you can donate money or time to FamilyWise, mentor a young parent, or advocate for families
