We’re pleased to announce that Nick Hughes will receive our Volunteer of the Year Award!
Nick began his time at FamilyWise as a Human Resources Intern in 2016. He worked on assessing staff communications, feedback and engagement. Upon completion of his internship, Nick stayed on as a volunteer at our front desk, contributing approximately 600 hours of service to date.
In addition to providing a welcoming, calm presence for the families who visit our center, Nick will always pitch in. He sets up meeting spaces, helps with special projects and has provided support at several fundraisers and large volunteer workdays.
Join us at our Fall Fundraiser on November 5, 5:30-7:30pm at Surly Brewing Co. This is a free fundraising event with food, music, beer, cash bar, games and a live auction. Music provided by rockin’ lawyer band Noisy Withdrawal of sponsor Fredrikson & Byron. Register Here
Raised in South Dakota, Nick made his way to the Twin Cities where he spent a decade working in real estate financing. After gaining experience in that field, he took some time off to focus on self-growth, volunteering to meet community needs and earning his second degree: a Bachelor’s in Human Resource Development with an emphasis in organizational development at The University of Minnesota. In his spare time, Nick likes to explore the Twin Cities food scene, keep up with the political news cycle, and travel.
About Volunteerism at FamilyWise
In 2017, 283 volunteers contributed 13,591 hours of service to FamilyWise. Many of these are graduate and post-graduate clinical interns who receive extensive training and clinical supervision while providing excellent service to the community. In addition to interns, we have individual, group and corporate volunteers to boost our capacity. These volunteers’ work ranges from a single day of outdoor clean-up to mentoring a young mother for at least one year. Read More
