Supervised Parenting Training

Therapeutic Supervised Parenting Training

Overview

FamilyWise partners with organizations to offer training in Therapeutic Supervised Parenting. FamilyWise uses a combined approach incorporating the evidenced-based Nurturing Parenting Curriculum, the Ages and Stages Questionnaire, regular sessions with a Mental Health Practitioner, and oversight from a Licensed Mental Health Professional. The training includes approximately 24 hours of “classroom” time, shadowing opportunities, and live support when working with families. This training can be virtual, in-person, or hybrid.

Our trainers are Mental Health Professionals with over 20 years of experience providing mental health supports and services to individuals receiving child-welfare services and involved in family court. Trainers bring additional knowledge in Motivational Interviewing and NEAR (Neurobiology, Epigenetics, Adverse Childhood Experiences, and Resilience) Science, as well as knowledge of the intricacies of working within the foster care system and with children who have been separated from their parents. We know each community and organization is different and will customize the training to meet your unique needs.

About Therapeutic Supervised Parenting

Therapeutic Supervised Parenting is meant to combine supervised parenting time with aspects of parent education and brief family therapy.  This program is grounded in trauma-informed and strength-based support. The long- term goals are to prevent recidivism in families receiving social services, lower the rate of multi-parent teenage pregnancies, reduce the rate of juvenile delinquency and alcohol/drug abuse, and stop the intergenerational cycle of child abuse/neglect by teaching positive nurturing parenting behaviors.
